As one of the most profitable teams throughout the history of football within any football club, Manchester United is perhaps one of the widely sponsored teams. Through the sheer popularity of the team, sponsors are willing to pay nearly one hundred million dollars in order for the chance to be the principal sponsor for the team.

AIG has been the main sponsor of the team since 2006. Through the sponsorship which would pay Manchester United over 56 million dollars over a period of four years, the logo was to be displayed through the front of the shirts which are worn while playing football as well as on many other pieces of merchandise which are used by the team. This has been one of the largest sponsorship deals which is available and will end through the end of 2010.

In the years from 2010-2011 for a period of four years, with a sum of eighty million dollars being paid to the team over the four year period, a new deal from Aon, as the principal sponsor, exceeds the previous deal in the sum of the highest amount which has been paid to the company. As the largest deal in the history of football, this goes to show a lot about the football game which has been changing throughout the decades. Manchester United is privy to some of the highest levels of sponsorship.

Recently, in the sponsorship that comes with shirts, Nike has created a deal with the team that is worth nearly fifteen million dollars to produce the shirts and have the logo on the shirts of the team, through the games.

When the Manchester United team first came about and were known as the Newton Heath football club in 1878, the games were played within an open field where the players could not function at their best, as the field was rocky in one end and considered swamp like through the other. With changing rooms more than a ten minute walk away, this was not going to do for the team. There was going to have to be necessary changes made within the football club in order for the club to remain within the Football League.

Today, the stadium in which the football games are played in Old Trafford, and the team has come a long way since having to walk more than ten minutes to arrive at the changing rooms and seeing a field that has been filled with rocks and swamp like grass. The game is played on an unnatural green surface, commonly known as Astroturf and the team is one of the most profitable teams in the history of the game with a worth of just over one million dollars.

The ground is well known by the nickname the Theatre of Dreams, and is the second largest stadium for seating, aside from Wembley Stadium. The football club has been present within the grounds since 1910 when the stadium was constructed. As the third largest stadium in the United Kingdom, the players on the team have many luxuries which are present in the field. As the stadium has been established for nearly one hundred years, there are years and years of history which are present, adding an air of history to the stadium for every fan that come to watch a game.
